In N Out

If you crave an In-N-Out burger but don’t live on the West Coast, first of all, I feel your pain!

But today is our lucky day. You may

not have the recipe for your signature burger, but I know how to make your secret sauce

And don’t

worry, it doesn’t take special equipment or rare ingredients to make this happen

.

In fact, the ingredients are so basic and inexpensive that it’s almost fun.

Curious yet? Start.

Why is it called In N Out?

It all started in 1948 when Harry and Esther Snyder opened a burger joint with a car-hop ordering system.

This approach was very popular at the time in California, so the couple decided to give it a try. And it’s what led to its now-iconic name.

In-N-Out got its name from the way staff took orders. Instead of customers entering the restaurant, they would stay in their cars and staff would approach them. Then, once they took the order, they would come in to order and retrieve the food for a simple “in-n-out” transaction.

In-N-Out soon became one of the most beloved burger joints in the country, and now has more than 300 locations.

Unfortunately, they are almost all on the West Coast.

Luckily, you can bring some California sunshine into your own kitchen with this recipe for their signature sauce.

What is In N Out sauce made of?

While many people confuse the iconic In-N-Out sauce with Thousand Island dressing, the two are not the same.

They have similar flavor profiles, creamy and salty with a bit of flavor, but the Thousand Island dressing has a bit of a kick, thanks to the addition of tabasco sauce or paprika

. In

contrast, In-N-Out sauce is a bit sweeter and not spicy at all.

In-N-Out sauce is made with five common pantry staples that you probably already have on hand:

  • Ketchup
  • Mayonnaise White
  • vinegar
