Cold weather always makes me turn to low-carb slow cooker recipes. One of my favorites is this crack chicken recipe, because it’s very comforting and needs minimal hands-on time. Best of all, it uses ingredients that many of us have on hand all the time. That was the perfect excuse to make this Crock Pot crack chicken again this week, and to share it with you!
This natural keto crack chicken is one of those meals that will please almost anyone, even if they are not low carb, making it perfect to make for the family. I bet you’ll do it again and again, like me.
What is crack chicken?
Crack chicken is an addictive and creamy shredded chicken made with cream cheese, ranch, bacon and cheddar. This easy crack chicken recipe is similar to crack sauce, but we added chicken and used ranchero seasoning instead of ranchero dressing. This creates a stronger ranchero flavor without making the chicken too brothy.
Many crack chicken
recipes use mix packets of ranch seasonings, but they’re packed with all sorts of weird ingredients, starch, preservatives, and sometimes even sugar. There is no reason to do this, because you can easily make your own crack chicken seasoning! It is very similar to the condiments I use for homemade ranch dressing.
If you prefer whole chicken breasts instead of the shredded style in this recipe, make my chicken ranchero with baked bacon.

Crack Chicken Ingredients
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for keto crack chicken, what each does in the recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card below.
- Chicken breast – I prefer to use organic chicken (send it directly to your door here), but any boneless, skinless chicken breast will work. You can also use boneless, skinless chicken thighs.
- Spices – Dried parsley, dry dill, dried chives, garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper. If you want, you can make my homemade ranchero seasoning and only use about 1/3 cup of that, but I recommend skipping the salt when you do, as this recipe is already salted from the cheeses and bacon.
- Cream cheese – Whole cream cheese will be the tastiest and creamiest, but any simple type is fine to use.
- Cheddar cheese – Shredder it yourself or use pre-crushed. Other cheeses, like pepper jack, are also great.
- Bacon chunks: Buy pieces of cooked bacon if you prefer, but for the best flavor, crumble yours with baked bacon, air fryer bacon, or microwave bacon.
- – Add the white part of the green onion and garnish this easy chicken with sliced green onions.

Storage
- Shop Instructions: Once you have made this Crock Pot crack chicken recipe, you can store the leftovers in the fridge for 2-3 days.
- Reheat: The easiest way to reheat chicken is in the microwave, but you can also do it in the slow cooker (using the Warm or Low setting) or in a saucepan on the stove. If you’re worried about the chicken drying out, you can add some fat (like butter) or chicken broth when reheating.
- Froze: Freeze chicken in a plastic bag or airtight container for 2-3 months.

:
- Crack chicken sandwiches – stack it on your favorite buns! You can serve regular buns for any family member on a regular diet and low-carb buns for a ketogenic diet. The buns shown above are from my (first) Easy Keto Cookbook, but my (second) Easy Keto Carboholics’ Cookbook has even better buns that are soft and airy, just like the real thing.
