List of ingredients
Basic
- ingredients Ketchup: Use any brand of ketchup you may have. The best part about using ketchup is that it already has spices and flavors. To reduce carbs, choose a low-carb version.
Brown sugar
- : Brown sugar contains calories similar to white sugar.
Worcestershire Sauce
- : Widely available in supermarkets, most Worcestershire (pronounced wu.stuh.shuh) contain malt vinegar, anchovies, tamarind, onions, garlic and spices. This gives our BBQ sauce a beautiful umami punch. If you are allergic to fish, simply omit this ingredient.
The above ingredients make a basic 3-ingredient barbecue sauce recipe.
Vinegar for additional
- ingredients: For this recipe, we have used apple cider vinegar. Compared to white vinegar, apple cider vinegar is less acidic and has a rich brown color that adds to its deep color.
Smoked paprika
- : Add a little kick to your sauce with smoked paprika. Smoked paprika is quite mild, but imparts a beautiful smoky flavor to food. The smoky flavor is a nice addition if you’re not smoking your food over charcoal. Peferct for cooking in oven, air fryer, instant pot or stove.
- Salt: Since this easy brown sugar barbecue sauce has ketchup as the main ingredient, start with a very low amount of salt and work your way up to a teaspoon. Just test on the fly. In fact, if the meat is seasoned earlier, you can skip the salt altogether.
- Pepper: Ground black pepper will mix well and impart a pleasant flavor to your food.
- Mustard: I’ve added Dijon mustard to add a strong spicy flavor to this easy BBQ sauce.
Optional ingredients
: Cayenne pepper
- : (Optional) If you want to raise the heat a little, add cayenne pepper.
Garlic powder and
- onion powder: These tend to add depth to the original flavors of sauces and sauces, but since both ketchup and Worcestershire sauces have them, we’ve omitted them here
.
