When it comes to cooking, I will always prefer the slow cooker and instant cooker pouring and cooking method. I don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen floating on a hot stove. This roast pork with onion and clay pot is the easiest dish to make.
One day I was running out of many spices and decided to try using a packet of onion soup mix on my slow cooker pork roast. It absolutely ruined the pork roast for us because this is the only way we like to eat roast pork now.
Great Sides For This Meal Mashed
potatoes are practically essential for this meal. They are simply a perfect side. I also prefer corn with food, but as you can see from the photos, we ate peas tonight. We must have been without corn.
Fresh green beans or Brussels sprouts baked with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper to taste are another great accompaniment to this recipe.
If it’s summer, a good salad and some roasted potatoes or mashed potatoes would go handy. In addition, a sweet potato will add a pleasant sweetness to the dish.
Why apple juice
When we grew up we always had pork chops with apple sauce. As usual, sweetness with saltiness is always a great mix.
Apple juice will add some sweetness to soften the onion. If you don’t have apple juice in the house and don’t want to buy it, I recommend cutting the seasoning pack in half and using water.
You can also use water and simply add a heartless and sliced apple. This will still give you some of that sweetness that is needed for this dish.
Crock Pot Onion Pork Roast
This takes 3 minutes to prepare and then cooks all day. I have this simmer for about 6 hours, but I work at home, so I start a little later. If you work away from home, this will still remain moist and melt in your mouth if cooked for a little over 8 hours.
If you have one of the fancy slow cookers you can set timers for, it works too. I’m still working with a manual slow cooker.
- 2-3 lbs Pork Roast 1-2 cups
- apple juice 1
- packet onion soup Garlic powder onion powder
- Place the roast in your slow cooker and pour 1-2 cups of apple juice depending on the size of your slow cooker. A smaller cooking pot may need only one cup while a larger one might need 2.
- Pour the package of Onion Soup Mix directly over the roast. Add seasonings to taste.
- Simmer for at least 6 hours, but up to 8.
- Cut and serve with the sides of your choice.
Slow Cooker Pork Roast
This pork roast is very easy to make and is perfect for those busy weekdays. It is a good hearty dish that will feed at least 6.
As for leftovers, crush the rest and add barbecue sauce and then store it in the fridge. You can use that shredded pork for wraps and sandwiches for the next day’s lunches. We always have leftovers with this recipe and turning it into shredded pork is typically what we do with leftovers.
