Instant Pot Steak Pizzaiola: An easy pressure cooker (or crockpot) version of a favorite Italian dish of beef, tomatoes, vegetables, and lots of garlic.

Instant Pot Steak Pizzaiola

Steak Pizzaiola

in Italian translates as “meat pizza style”. It consists of cuts of beef served in a rich tomato sauce with lots of garlic. The tomato sauce stew and meat and breaks down the hard proteins in the meat to make it tender. The ingredients in steak pizzaiola can vary from place to place, even from one Italian family to another, as each has its own version. My version has crushed tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, sliced onions, chopped garlic cloves and garlic powder, pepper, Italian seasoning and meat stew meat. This is a simple meal that we enjoyed very much in my house! If you have a package of braised beef lying around, try this recipe soon! I think you’ll really love it.

Ingredients

  • Olive oil-to sauté vegetables
  • Red pepper-or green pepper
  • Mushrooms-I used white mushrooms Onion-Use
  • yellow onion

  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper
  • Garlic-for a lot of garlic
  • flavor

  • Chicken or meat broth: you can also use Better Than Bouillon
  • Stewed beef – this is perfect for the Instant Pot because you get
  • a tender

  • Italian seasoning
  • with fork, you can also make your own Garlic powder mix

  • , for extra garlic flavor
  • Balsamic vinegar (you can also use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
  • Crushed tomatoes -You can also use stewed tomatoes or diced tomatoes although I love the texture of crushed tomatoes!

How to do it

Instant Pot Instructions: Sauté the pepper:

  1. Turn Instant Pot to skip the setting. When the screen says HOT add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and the pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Move to a plate. Reserve.
  2. Sauté other vegetables: Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, mushrooms, onions, 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Add the broth and scrape the bottom of the pot so that nothing sticks. Turn off Instant Pot.

  4. ingredients: Pour the meat of the stew into the pot. Sprinkle the meat with 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder and balsamic vinegar. Pour the tomatoes on top. Don’t scramble.
  5. Pressure cook: Cover Instant Pot and close the lid tightly. Make sure the valve is set to seal. Set the manual pressure cook button to 25 minutes. When time is up, let the pot sit for at least 10 minutes before moving the valve to ventilation. Remove the lid.
  6. Thicken: If you want to thicken the sauce, make a suspension of cornstarch by mixing 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water until smooth. Spin Instant Pot to sauté and add the suspension until the sauce has thickened.
  7. Add the peppers.
  8. Serve

  9. : Serve meat and sauce with spaghetti, orzo, crusty, polenta or simple bread.

Slow cooker instructions

:

  1. Sauté vegetables: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and the bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Move to a plate. Reserve. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, mushrooms, onions, 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Transfer the mixture to the slow cooker.
  2. Add the ingredients: add broth, stew meat, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder and balsamic vinegar, tomatoes. Stir.
  3. Slow cooking: Cover and simmer for 6-8 hours
  4. .

  5. Thicken: If you want to thicken the sauce, make a suspension of cornstarch by mixing 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water until smooth. Stir the mixture in the slow cooker and cook on high heat without lid for about 20 minutes.
  6. Add the peppers.
  7. Serve the meat and sauce with spaghetti, orzo, crusty bread, polenta or just simple.

Steak Pizzaiola Recipes Notes & Tips

  • I used my Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*6 quarts. You can also do this in the 8- or 3-quart pot. In the 8-quart pot increase the broth to 1 cup.
  • You can double or halve this recipe. Simply adjust the ingredients and keep the cooking time the same.
  • Do you like meat? Increase the amount of stew meat to 2 pounds. Then season to taste with additional salt and pepper.
  • Add more flavor to this dish by giving a quick closure to the meat stew meat before pressure cooking.
  • Do you like the heat? Sprinkle some red pepper flakes.
  • If you don’t like mushrooms, you can simply leave them out. If your kids don’t like mushrooms, try cutting them finely… They won’t even know they’re on the plate!
  • Be sure to layer the ingredients as directed in the recipe and do not stir. If you agitate, you are likely to receive the recording error message.
  • Add some fresh color and flavor to the finished product by topping with fresh oregano, fresh basil or fresh parsley
  • .

  • Top our meat pizza with some mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. This is a delicious but optional option.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container* in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Serving Tips

Serve your meat in tomato sauce with spaghetti, orzo, rice, polenta, spaghetti pumpkin or crusty bread. Garlic bread or a large piece of focaccia would be amazing to clean all the sauce on your plate.
