when ethereum mining is done
ethereum developers have defined the condition for the change from pow to pos. They operate with the parameter known as total terminal difficulty (ttd) of the ethereum network. the calculation of ttd is quite complicated. In simple words, it is a counter (a variable) that grows with each new block found on the ethereum network.
Reading: When will eth mining end
do we merge? it is an amazing website with combination counter. you can always check the current total difficulty (ttd) there.
current ttd is 57,569,366,816,331,680,186,368 the merge occurs when ttd reaches 58,750,000,000,000,000,000,000 this happens on or about September 14th.
Is this date exact? yes, this date is quite accurate. some minor changes could be seen if ethereum hashrate changes severely. we don’t think this could happen in the next two weeks.
Are there any factors that could alter the transition to the aftermarket date? yes ethereum devs could postpone merging to higher ttd. however, this is an extremely unlikely event.
how the merger happens
We’ve heard a lot of rumors that ethical mining would still be possible after the merge, only the mining difficulty would increase due to the difficulty bomb, etc. that is not true. when the merge occurs, the ethereum network will no longer accept mined blocks. then mining just dies.
Ethereum (eth) mining stops in mid-September (approximately September 14). no more ethical mining would be possible.
how will the 2miners eth pool work?
at that particular time, when ethereum ttd reaches the preset value of 58,750,000,000,000,000,000,000, the pool can no longer find a new eth block and be rewarded. the date and time of the merge event are not accurate, therefore we will trade until the merge occurs.
We are grateful to have such an impressive ethical mining pool and mining community as we do. 100k+ miners are mining ethereum on 2miners. We would like to say thank you very much! to all of our miners. no flattery, we always stand up for our miners, you guys are awesome! in this sad moment, we would fight to the last mined block.
When the merger occurs, the group will continue to accept shares for a short period of time. obviously no rewards can be credited after the merge event. we would like to automatically switch it to the etc (ethereum classic) mining pool. however, that is impossible because etc uses a modified version of the ethash mining algorithm called etchash. you will need to reconfigure your software to do that.
2miners ethereum pool payments
Payments would be processed as standard until merger.
Payments to eth addresses are processed every 2 hours (usually much faster if there isn’t a long queue). payments to btc and nano addresses are processed once a day at 12:00 utc.
After the merge, we will process one last payment to all users in the ethereum pool. it should happen in a couple of hours after the merge. might be a bit delayed due to possible network issues. eth has never been operated using the pos consensus before. anything could happen. Many cryptocurrency exchanges may suspend eth deposits and withdrawals during the time of the merger. we use kraken and binance to process payments in btc or nano. Please note that the last btc/nano payout may be delayed until one of these cryptocurrency exchanges resumes ethereum trading.
You don’t need to ask for final payment or claim it anyway. you don’t need to change your payment limit too if it was too high. we will pay all unpaid balances that exceed the minimum payment threshold of the ethereum pool.
- for eth addresses 0.01 eth;
- for btc addresses 0.005 eth;
- for nano addresses 0.0005 eth.
what to mine when ethereum mining stops
there are a lot of coins you could mine after ethereum mining is done. we have a post listing all of them what to mine when ethereum goes pos.
currently the most profitable coins after ethereum are ravencoin, firo, cortex, ergo, aeternity, beam, bitcoin gold, ethereum classic and callisto. you can always check the most profitable coins for your hardware at 2cryptocalc.com
Obviously, when the eth mining is done, huge hashing power will be released. profitability calculations may be inaccurate for a short period of time, while miners would constantly switch from one coin to another. 2miners gives you the best possible experience by offering all altcoin mining pools in one place. just open 2miners.com, choose the coin that is most profitable for your hardware and start mining.
some coins have a huge hashrate and others are quite small. No coin could compare to Ethereum in terms of hash power, but Ethereum Classic, Ravencoin, and Ergo are the closest runners. choosing one of them is the safest post-merger strategy. at least for the first few days.
change to etc. mining
- change the pool host in your mining software from eth.2miners.com:2020 to etc.2miners.com:1010
- change the mining algorithm from ethash to etchash.
eth and etc they have the same wallet format. sometimes it is possible to keep your eth wallet address. all you need is to just change the network from eth to etc in your wallet. sometimes the process is more difficult, especially if you mine to a crypto exchange. we also support btc payments for ethereum classic pool.
If you are using an asic device, you may need new firmware. here is the detailed post about innosilicon machines.
url: stratum+tcp://etc.2miners.com:1010 worker: your_address.asic_id password: x
here is the configuration for etc. mine through nicehash.
custom pool name: 2miners, etc. algorithm: etchash stratum hostname or ip: etc.2miners.com port: 1010 username: your_wallet_address password: x
switching to rvn mining
- change the pool host in your mining software from eth.2miners.com:2020 to rvn.2miners.com:6060
- change the mining algorithm from ethash to kawpow
- change your wallet address. eth and rvn addresses are different!
nicehash is supported. custom pool name: 2miners rvn algorithm: kawpow hostname or stratum ip: rvn.2miners.com port: 6161 username: your_wallet_address password: x
switching to ergo mining
- change the pool host in your mining software from eth.2miners.com:2020 to erg.2miners.com:8888
- change the mining algorithm from ethash to autolykos2
- change your wallet address. eth and erg addresses are different!
btc payments are not yet supported by ergo, but our developers are working on implementing this feature in September.
nicehash is supported. custom pool name: erg 2miners algorithm: autolykos stratum ip or hostname: erg.2miners.com port: 8888 username: your_wallet_address password: x
the new project called ethereumpow (ethw) appeared recently. the dev team wants to keep the original ethereum chain without changing to pos. We don’t think it’s possible to switch miners from eth to ethw seamlessly. the ethw network will start sometime after the merge event itself.
Currently, we are discussing the possibility of adding ethw to 2miners and are in contact with the developers of the project. We will keep you informed on this matter. we will also add ethereumpow to 2cryptocalc when ethw mining starts.
what to mine with gpu in 2023
Ethereum’s move to proof-of-stake is undoubtedly one of the most important events in the history of cryptocurrency mining of all time. eth developers planned this from the beginning but not many people expected this to happen in 2022. ethereum was always the biggest driver of graphics card mining industry. next year the gpu mining process would not be as easy as before. in 2023 you must choose the coins you mine wisely. Gone are the days when you could set up eth mining on your platform and forget about it for a couple of years. now you always need to calculate profitability taking into account your operating costs, especially energy consumption.
what to mine with nvidia video cards in 2023
nvidia gpus always provides the best flexibility in terms of mining. nvidia could well undermine all the gpu algorithms out there. Although you may not have noticed it before, we can assure you that it is an advantage of this brand compared to amd.
there are many old low end cards like nvidia geforce gtx 1050 ti that could still be exploited with profitability up to $0.3/day.
4gb memory is enough for almost all coins including ravencoin. the rvn dag file is currently 3,523gb. that means you could still rip rvn with a 4gb card, but only if you’re running linux os. it would be quite impossible to run ravencoin mining with a gtx 1050 ti on windows.
of course you couldn’t extract algorithms as demanding as cuckoocortex with a 4gb card. this algorithm is used by cortex (ctxc) and requires graphics cards of at least 8 gb.
suppose you have an advanced nvidia card like nvidia geforce rtx 3070 ti. what should you do?
Without eth, there are still coins that bring you more than $1/card day. this profitability table will change when eth becomes pos and the profitability of rvn etc. and other currencies could decline. however, if you are a lucky owner of 3070 ti, you can mine high demand coins like bark. this may be a safe haven for you.
what to mine with amd video cards in 2023
amd cards are usually cheaper than nvidia analogs. they generally consume more power and support fewer mining algorithms. these factors could be crucial when ethereum switches to pos. Thanks to lolminer and other mining software developers, amd cards were able to mine more and more coins.
cards from 5 years ago like amd radeon rx 480 or amd radeon rx 580, even without ethereum currency, could still be mined with a profitability of $0.5/day.
if you have the 4gb graphics card models you could continue mining in 2023. ergo, rvn etc all these coins look very promising for your hardware.
Mining of ravencoin (rvn) on 4gb graphics cards would be possible until mid-2023.
what about advanced amd cards? what to mine if you have amd radeon rx 6800xt?
The procedure is similar to that of nvidia. go to https://2cryptocalc.com/ and click on your card name. the mining profitability table will appear.
Things don’t look too bad in the absence of eth. it is not yet clear how it will change. Anyway, it won’t take long, and at the end of September, we will see the new world of gpu cryptocurrency mining. We will keep you informed on our blog and twitter.
We strongly recommend that you join our community of miners on telegram or one of the local chats in Russian, Turkish, Spanish and Chinese.
